Diversify your values. Don’t put your eggs into on basket such as work, because if that doesn’t go well, you will be completely emotionally crippled. Make sure you have other things to do and to live for, such as value your family, spiritual life and contribution to society. So if your work life doesn’t goes well, you have other aspect of your life worth living for.
Understanding is power. Understand self, others and the environment. It would put you in an advantage position as it will help you with your decision, whether it is worth getting involve or not, what action to take to prepare, whether to are held responsible or not, relieving yourself from shame and guilt if you are unaware of it.
Be realistic and work within your means, competencies and ability. Know what is outside of it as well. Remember it is not entirely your fault if you under perform. There are things that is outside your hands and you can’t push yourself to perfection or like a robot. We are all humans and we all have our limits. It is unwise to push yourself beyond what is unrealistic. If things are outside of your competencies, then allocate task for someone who is capable. If there is a strain in the ability to allocate task, then only agree to do what you can. Remember you are not responsible certain things as it is the management team responsibility and being involved can cause more problem if you are not competent.
Listen to yourself and your wellbeing. If you are over stress, make sure you are aware of it so you can take precaution such as having down time and relaxation time to heal and recharge yourself.
Remember to work for the intention of lasting the long term and not the short term, so make sure you pace yourself. Don’t take work as a 100m sprint but consider it as a marathon. Don’t think short term and overwork yourself, burn yourself and cause harm to your health and mental wellbeing. Work to last for the long term. Sustainability and longevity is key if you want to be in the game for the long term. That means give your time to rest, have a healthy routine, recollect yourself and do things you enjoy like have hobbies in the side or work in the job you like if you want to last for the long term.
Humbleness is the only way to grow, it allows you to see your faults and learn from it. If we are humble and egoless enough to not fear failure, looking bad, criticism, then our to progress improves and our chance for success increases. A true wise master is always a learner of life. Even though one already know, we mustn’t have the ‘know it all’ attitude and belittle the knowledge we already know, as it shows we do not respect these sacred knowledge.
Remember that in circumstances of misfortune, is the key moment where you can built your character of patience, understanding, emotional detachment from negativity, opportunity to learn to let go, learn to be emotionally detached to the negative outcome, a chance to build your perspective that is outside your current scope,
Be kind to yourself. Don’t over work yourself and don’t be too hard on yourself.
