Important qualities for peace ~ patience, self control and serenity

"... being accomplished in patience, self control and serenity he master and adjust the karmic action of the next ground" ~ Avatamsaka Sutra

I find this quote to be very true. Having been influenced by modern concept of how great freedom is and  to embrace it excessively, over time I felt very wild in spirit and lacking a sense of control, as a result it leads to a sense of instability and a lack of peace. When we lose a sense of self control we lose sense of security as we no longer are a master of our own self but become a volatile reactive individual, anything could happen which is a frightening thing about this. At least with self control it will give us choice and options in our decisions.

But note that there is a difference between self control and a controlling person. Self control means you are control in your individual self whereas a controlling person tries to control external factors which may not always be in their control, hence resulting to disappointment and afflictions.
